In order to help our Dog Adoption Officer in selecting the right Dane
for your circumstances, please fill in the form below.
As you would expect, we have learnt through experience the minimum
requirements that ensure the safety and happiness of a rescue Great
Dane. Whilst all our home checkers are unpaid volunteers, we do
reimburse their travelling expenses from our very scare finances.
Therefore we should be grateful if you would read the minimum
requirements below and only apply if you are able to meet them.
Fully enclosed garden with fencing at least 5ft high
Main living rooms of house do not have laminate flooring, unless
they have extensive non-slip rugs
Never leaving the dog without human companionship for longer that 4
hours a day (This is 4 hours a day - not 4 hours in the
morning and 4 hours in the afternoon)
A local area for daily off lead exercise
Never placing the dog in kennels or other outside buildings
The knowledge/ability to train a dog without resorting to force
Having the finances to provide the Dane with good quality food and
healthcare
Being prepared to make a non-refundable donation
between £50 and £250, the average being £200
Being prepared to learn and accept advice about the needs of a Great Dane (where necessary)
A genuine desire to provide a loving home for a rescued
Dane
Please note that since Great Danes do not fair well in kennels most
of our dogs are situated in foster homes around the country,
predominantly in middle England. Therefore you must also be willing/able
to make the journey to the Midlands to meet a prospective adoptive Dane
or to our sanctuary which is near Boston in Lincs.
Unfortunately, a number of applicants do not give full
consideration to the responsibility of rescuing a Dane and subsequently
withdraw their application, thus incurring costs for the charity. Our
finances are very scarce and much needed for the care of our Danes, so
by completing this application you are agreeing to paying for any costs
incurred if you subsequently withdraw your application.
For this reason we would ask you not to apply to several Dane
rescues as processing your applications will cost each organisation money
and the time and goodwill of their volunteers. You should find a breed
rescue charity ( we would only recommend using a charity as they are
closely monitored and required to adhere to strict guidelines - ask for
their charity number ) whose operating procedures you are
comfortable with.
