Great Dane Adoption Society

Special Danes looking for a home

The dogs on this page are only a few of the approx. 30 dogs we have in care at any time. In addition to the "Special Needs Dogs" shown on this page, we have many other less demanding dogs waiting for homes. We do not maintain a public list of the dogs in care as it changes daily.

All of our dogs are properly assessed and all of our potential homes are checked for suitability. In addition the dogs are all vaccinated and wormed, and all the bitches are neutered prior to adoption. Our Dog Adoption Unit works very hard to ensure that the right Dane is put into the right home by marrying the needs of the Dane and the needs of the new home.

Molly

Click here to see a bigger picture of MollyHi everyone my name is Molly. I am about 3 years old, spayed and a very big girl.

I love people, children and other big dogs. I have had one run in with a terrier who took to yapping at me, so I need a home where I won’t have to meet any small dogs.

I would love to live with a big boy dog form company, or as an only dog provided I am not left along for long periods.

On and off lead I am good and very well behaved in the house. A country home would be best where I can run and play in the fields, without meeting any terriers!

Please consider giving me a home as I am really sad at the rescue sanctuary.  Apply online today asking for big Molly.

Lots of Love Molly xxxxxx

Zeus

Click here to see a bigger picture of ZeusHi Zeus here, I am a very big handsome devil and I am about 4 ½ yrs old.

I am very loving with people and children and fine with big dogs, but sorry to admit I really can not tolerate little yappy fellows! Now its not that I am small dog prejudice, but come on a dog is a dog not a squeaky toy. Squeaky toys are for throwing in the air and catching aren’t they??

I do have special requirements on my wish list. I need to get lots of fuss and sleep on the sofa. I need to get lots of regular exercise and a safe place to run off lead everyday.

My ideal home would have land or a very large garden where I can play and run without coming across any little dogs. I am very happy to live with a lady dog of medium or large stature.

If you feel worthy of offering a home to such a fabulous canine then why not apply online asking for Zeus (think that was some kind of God wasn’t it?)

Beula

Click here to see a bigger picture of BeulaHi there my name is Beula.

I am 3 yrs old and my family gave me up because they are in the armed forces and I couldn’t travel around the world with them every time they got posted.

I would like a home with teenagers or adults who can play with me and give me lots of time and long walks.

I would prefer to be an only pet as I like to get all the fuss if possible.

I will ignore other dogs when out on my walks and will say hello to them nicely if they are friendly with me. I had not been socialised before I came to my foster home but my foster dad Allan has been helping me to make new canine friends and I am really improving now and enjoying meeting other dogs.

My ideal home would be in the country with lots of space.

I am a very kind loving girl and would make a super family dog, in the right environment.

Please consider me and apply online as I am desperate for my own family.

Grace and Dylan

Hello everybody my name is Gracie and my partner is called Dylan. I am nearly four years old and Dylan is only one and a half. We are both neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped.

Sadly our mummy and Daddy split up and when Daddy left home Mummy had to go back to work full time and couldn’t look after us properly. Mummy loved us very much and was very sad when we had to go to our foster home but she is pleased that we are happy now and that we have managed to stay together.

Click here to see a bigger picture of Grace and DylanWe are devoted to each other and Dylan follows me everywhere. We are good with other dogs apart from that I do have a problem with German Shepherds. When I was a puppy I was attacked by one and I have never got over it.

We like people and children, and we are very good house dogs. Dylan is a bit clumsy and makes everyone laugh because he doesn’t realise how big he is and sometimes he falls over his own feet when he runs too fast!

As for me well I am perfect of course ( well apart from my funny ear that I prefer to wear at a jaunty angle across my head) but that’s a ladies choice isn’t it !

We are very happy in our foster home and our foster mum and dad love us and take great care of us. We are very affectionate and well mannered and all we wish for is our own "forever home" where we can stay together and have our own family.

If you have space in your home and hearts for two gentle giants please apply online today. I am not going to tell Dylan that I am writing this because I don’t want him to get too excited ……

Thank you for reading our story

Lots of Love Gracie xxxxxx

Zack

Click here to see a bigger picture of ZackMy name is Zack and I am 4-5 years old. Aunty Joy collected me from Manchester Dogs home, having been picked up as a stray. I was starving hungry and very poorly with a tummy bug and kennel cough.

I have since been neutered and vaccinated etc. I am a fit chap who is good on and off lead. I am good with all other dogs and have no experience of cats.

I hate the vets! And I mean hate it! I am a good kind boy unless people are trying to do "stuff" to me and then I get a bit mad. I hate being pulled about and so on and don’t understand all that kind of stuff.

Apart from all that I am a good clean house dog (although very slobbery). I am searching for an experienced family with teenagers or adults only.

I would live as an only dog or with a girl dog. My family will need to be patient and sensible with me, in order to gain my trust as I am timid of new people. In return for this I will make a super companion, and we will have lots of fun together.

Please think about me and apply online today asking for Zack.

Lots of Love Wacky Zacky

Ellie

Click here to see a bigger picture of EllieHello my name is Ellie, and I am a fit and healthy 9 years old.

I love people and children and would like a quiet home where I can have a nice bed and a couple of good walks each day. I am an excellent clean house dog and very quiet around the place.

Like so many Danes I had not been well socialised with other dogs but since being at the Sanctuary I have learned that it is quite nice to have a bit of male company and I will live happily with the big boys now. I would be happy as an only dog or with a good natured older male dog for company but the young hooligans do get on my nerves I must admit! I have no experience of cats so probably best avoided.

I came to GDAS from the RSPCA where my family abandoned me when they no longer wanted me. I have tried very hard to think what I did wrong but I don’t know why they stopped loving me after all this time.

I am such a loving girl and just need my very own "forever home" to live out my senior years.

Please consider making an older lady very happy, as I am very sad without a comfortable home, apply apply online today.

Lots of love Ellie xxxx

Jade

Click here to see a bigger picture of JadeHi Jade here and I am about 3 years old.

My story so far is a little bit sad so please have tissues handy.

When I was born my mummy was in such an unhappy state that she didn’t want us. All my brothers and sisters were killed by our mummy, but I was saved. It’s only natural that when a bitch feels insecure she will not bring more mouths into the world to feed.

My mummy did bite me and left me with half an ear lobe on the right side and also just caught the corner of my eye so although I can see just fine, my right eye is a little smaller than my left eye.

Anyway I was sold to an old lady, who couldn’t take care of me and she kept me in an outside toilet for the first year of my life.

A local family heard about me and went to see the old lady and gave some money for me. They took me to the vet and gave me some good food and a nice home. They would have kept me but I didn’t see eye to eye with their female Spaniel.

They contacted GDAS and took me to the Sanctuary. I am now neutered and like other dogs if introduced properly. I am very affectionate but because of my upbringing I am a little wild at heart!

I play all the time and need a family with time to train me properly. I would like to be an only pet.

If you have no small children and you are kind patient and above all fit and active please consider me.

Thank you for reading my story and please apply online today asking for Jade.

Love Jade

Daisy

Click here to see a bigger picture of DaisyHi folks Daisy here,

I am a 4 year old girl and like all the girls at GDAS have been spayed vaccinated chipped etc.

I like people of all ages and am very loving.I am fine with dogs when I am introduced properly and I will live with a good natured boy dog once I get to know them, or would be happy as an only dog.

My first owners didn’t allow me to mix with other dogs so my foster mum has been teaching me to make new friends which I am enjoying very much. I will chase cats for fun.

My owners got rid of me when they decided to emigrate, but they didn’t have much time for me anyway so I am hoping to find a kind loving family to offer me a forever home to call my own.

I have been in care for ages so please consider me and I promise to do my best to be ever so good and give lots of hugs and kisses.

So if you think you could offer me a loving "forever home" I would do my best to be ever so good and give you lots of hugs and kisses. Please  apply online and ask for Daisy.

Lots of Love Daisy xxxx

Sasha

Click here to see a bigger picture of SashaHello everyone I am Sasha,

I am 2 years old and have been spayed. My Mum was a Mastiff and my Dad was a Dane. I have taken my beautiful colouring from my Mum but look much more like my Dad in every other way.

My owners couldn’t keep me because I was too boisterous for my human mummy who was in a wheel chair.

I am strong and fit and would live with a good natured male dog who is happy to let me be in charge, or as an only dog provided I am not left alone for long periods.

I like people and dogs and just need a fit family who can give me the attention, time and exercise that I deserve. I would be suitable for a family with teenagers as I am too strong willed for young children. I am not good with cats.

Please consider me as I have been trying to find the right home for absolutely ages.

I am staying with my foster family in Essex and they are very kind to me but I really do need my own "forever home". So please apply online  asking for Sasha.

Lots of Love Sasha

Lara

Hi my name is Lara and I am only 1 year old.

My first owners didn’t understand me and didn’t socialise me very well, so I became quite timid of strangers, and I am particularly frightened of elderly people, and if I feel threatened by them I will bark and try to look scary!

Click here to see a bigger picture of LaraI love all other people, and I will play nicely with other dogs of medium to large size. I do not get on with small dogs at all, and will pick them up like a squeaky toy and run around with them, which is very naughty but I can’t help myself.

I need a new home, with a young active family who have their own land or very large garden where I can have daily off lead exercise without meeting any small dogs! I would live as an only dog or with a large well natured male dog.

A county home would be ideal, but away from livestock.

I know it sounds like I am being very fussy but it is very important that I get the right home so that I don’t end up in trouble!

Thank you for reading my story and please apply online if you would like to give me a forever home.

Love Lara xxxxx
