Great Dane Adoption Society

Special Danes looking for a home

The dogs on this page are only a few of the approx. 30 dogs we have in care at any time. In addition to the "Special Needs Dogs" shown on this page, we have many other less demanding dogs waiting for homes. We do not maintain a public list of the dogs in care as it changes daily.

All of our dogs are properly assessed and all of our potential homes are checked for suitability. In addition the dogs are all vaccinated and wormed, and all the bitches are neutered prior to adoption. Our Dog Adoption Unit works very hard to ensure that the right Dane is put into the right home by marrying the needs of the Dane and the needs of the new home.

Joe

Click here to see a bigger picture of JoeMy name is Joe and I am just 4 years old.

I have been neutered and I am a fit young man. I love all people and I am fine with children although older children would be best because of my size.

I am not good with small dogs and so I need a home where I will not have to mix with little terriers and so on. I live happily with the Dane girls and I am an excellent house dog. I am kind loyal and obedient.

If you have your own land or live in the country with no small dogs close by, then I am your man, so please apply online today.

Thank you for reading my story

Love Joe xxx

Ollie

Click here to see a bigger picture of OllieHello Ollie here.

I am a handsome Blue boy of 4 years. I have been castrated and I am fighting fit.

I like people and older children but I do not like babies. There is just something about them – now lets be honest they do pong a bit and that high pitch scream well it does go right through one doesn’t it!

Really I am better with anything Big. Big dogs are preferable to small dogs. I am fine with Dane girls but I don’t care much for small dogs either.

I need an experienced home who can give me plenty of exercise and where I need not come into contact with little dogs or little people.

I know it’s a tall order but I am ever hopefully yours. Please consider me and  apply online

Hobbies include jumping fences so secure garden essential!

Don’t rule me out if you have experience and time on your side, and you will be rewarded with lots of slobbery kisses!

Merlin

Click here to see a bigger picture of MerlinHi Everyone I am Merlin and I am about 18 months old.

I found myself in one of the Stray Pounds just before Christmas.
My friend and I were lost and we were having some fun chasing sheep when a farmer shot my friend with his gun. It was terrible and I was very frightened but I managed to run off and avoid the gun. Then someone caught me and took me to the Dog Pound.

In the Pound there were hundreds of dogs, all lost like me, and because we had no identity tag or microchip thing in our necks, our owners could not be contacted. Maybe our mums and dads didn’t want us anymore, I don’t really know.

Anyway I got Kennel Cough and felt really sick but then after 7 days the lady at the Pound asked if GDAS could come and get me. A kind lady called Liz came in her little white van and took me to the GDAS sanctuary.

I was frightened because I didn’t know what to expect. There was lots of snow and it was a cold day, but I now have heating and they put a really nice warm quilted coat on me as well because I was poorly. Then I had lots of tablets and soon felt better.

Now I go for long walks on the fens with my new friend another male Dane called Rex and we play and play together.

My new family would be kind and loving and not live near any sheep! I would prefer to live with a girl dog for company or if not with someone who is at home all day.

Hobbies include playing with my toys and nice long walks, and lots of cuddles.

If you are interested in providing me with a warm and active home please apply online today.

Lots of Love Merlin xxxxx

Ps forgot to say my “special feature “ is that I have one Brown eye and one Blue eye !

Poppy

Click here to see a bigger picture of PoppyHiya folks Poppy here.

I am 14 months old and full of fun. I have been spayed ( like all GDAS girls of course).

My family no longer wanted me and gave me to the local dogs home. I was there for 4 months but they were unable to find me a suitable home, so eventually they rang Aunty Joy and she came the next day and took me to the GDAS Sanctuary.

Here I live with Max and we play all day long. He even lets me share his squeaky chicken sometimes which is his absolute favourite, so he must really like me now!

I have no experience of cats and I am very boisterous with small dogs so I need a family who will take me to training classes and socialise me with lots of canine friends. I am a lovely girl with lots of “potential” – not sure what that means but hear the word keep cropping up??

If you feel you can offer me a kind, active, home with lots of time to spare to help me become the young lady that we all know I can, then please  apply online  and ask for Poppy.

Thank you nice people xxxxx

Diesel and Neville

Click here to see a bigger picture of Diesel and NevilleHello please let me introduce myself my name is Diesel and I am 5 ½ years old.

My family have had a terrible time, all due to the recession and it all ended in us having to move out of the family home. Where mum and dad and our human brother went to live there were no dogs allowed and although mum cried and was very upset there was nothing she could do.

She phoned lots of rescue places but nobody would take me in with my special need. You see my special need is Neville. Neville is a 2 1/2 years old Bassett. He has been with me since he was a tiny baby and he thinks I am his Mummy and his Daddy all rolled into one. Wherever I go Neville follows. He gets into my bed with me. He tries to eat out of my bowl but thankfully he can’t reach. When I sit down he sits underneath me. He just loves me. Aunty Joy agreed to take us both in and find us a home where we could stay together.

We went to a what we thought was a smashing new home for a few months but then what a blow it was when our new parents decided to emigrate to South Africa ! Honestly what a shock, so back to our original foster home we went. We are very happy with our foster family who adore us and spoil us but we really do need a “FOREVER HOME”

We only need short walks or ambles a couple of times a day, and a warm cosy bed. We like cuddles and attention and we are very affectionate and well behaved. I have been castrated but Neville hasn’t, but lets face it he isn’t much of a threat to the girls is he! We are fine with cats and children but prefer the quiet life.

Please consider us and apply online today if you can find it in your heart to take in a couple of homeless fellows, we would be eternally grateful.

Lots of Love Diesel and Neville.
