Special Danes looking for a homeThe dogs on this page are only a few of the approx. 30 dogs we have in care at any time. In addition to the "Special Needs Dogs" shown on this page, we have many other less demanding dogs waiting for homes. We do not maintain a public list of the dogs in care as it changes daily. All of our dogs are properly assessed and all of our potential homes are checked for suitability. In addition the dogs are all vaccinated and wormed, and all the bitches are neutered prior to adoption. Our Dog Adoption Unit works very hard to ensure that the right Dane is put into the right home by marrying the needs of the Dane and the needs of the new home. Dudley
I find myself in this predicament through no fault of my own. My family lost their job and their home and so I have ended up begging for your help. I would be better suited to being an only dog because I like all the attention, but I am ok with dogs when I am out. I am ok with children but they need to be aware that they may get knocked down by my sheer bulk when I am running and playing. My ideal family would be young and fit and enjoy playing with me and my many toys. I am good in the house and can be left home alone for short periods once I have had my walk. I am a handsome Blue boy of 4 years. I have been castrated and I am fighting fit. I like people and older children but I do not like babies. There is just something about them – now lets be honest they do pong a bit and that high pitch scream well it does go right through one doesn’t it! Really I am better with anything Big. Big dogs are preferable to small dogs. I am fine with Dane girls but I don’t care much for small dogs either. I need an experienced home who can give me plenty of exercise and where I need not come into contact with little dogs or little people. I know it’s a tall order but I am ever hopefully yours. I am spayed and I am 3 ½ years old. I am very loving with people and a good obedient house dog.When I am on my lead I will bark and try to chase off other dogs but if I am properly introduced I will say hello nicely and be friends with them. Problem is that people don’t understand this ! If I meet dogs off lead I just want to say hello to them but they are mostly scared of me. I have lived with lots of boy dogs with no problems at all and have even been on street collections with Aunty Joy and been very well behaved. I need an experienced Pack Leader who will understand my needs and not give up on me at the first hurdle. If you think you are this person and can offer me the home that I need please apply online . Morgan Hi my name is Morgan. I am about one year old. I found myself in the Pound for Stray Dogs a few weeks ago. It was very frightening there. I was starving hungry and wasn’t very happy at all. After about a month the lady phoned GDAS. Within a few days I was on my way to the Sanctuary. The lovely volunteers who collected me were very kind and Aunty Joy said they could name me so they called me Morgan. I know that now and it quite suits me. I was emaciated when I arrived but after a dose of wormers and plenty of Royal Canin I am putting on weight nicely. I am very friendly with all the people that I meet though I do not like other dogs much at all. I am having to learn about this ! My new family would have to have experience and be prepared to work with me and get help if needed in order to socialise me with other canine friends. My first year has been pretty terrible but I know things can only get better. So if you are the right family to help get the most from life, please apply online today. Lilly & Milly Hello my name is Milly, I am the little black one. Me and my big sister Lilly and I are looking for a new family. I am 4 years old and Lilly is 3yrs. As with all GDAS girls we are both spayed. Our family couldn’t keep us due to a reduction in their income. They were very sad to say goodbye to us but could no longer pay for our insurance and good quality food etc. We both love all people and children and are ok with cats. I like to play with all dogs and Lilly is ok with dogs once she knows them but can be a bit scared at first. She was attacked a couple of times by little dogs so she is a bit shy of them now. I always look out for her and once she sees me playing with them then she is ok. We desperately want to stay together is possible but if we can’t find a home together then I have explained to Lilly that she may have to be very brave and go to a new home on her own. We hope it won’t come to that. The people at the Sanctuary said they will do their best for us. If you have enough room in your life for the two of us please apply online today. Jasper and Kira Hello everybody my name is Jasper. Our mum had 3 young children and had to move to a smaller house and we were no allowed to go there. I have lived with Kira for as long as I can remember. Kira is 6yrs and I am 5 yrs old. We are both neutered. Kira has had puppies in the past and she is very soft and likes lots of cuddles. I am a bit shy at first but love kind people once I know them. We are good with dogs, cats and children and our only wish is to stay together. Harley Hello my name is Harley and I am 2 yrs old. I am castrated and apart from having my tail docked due to an injury and I a picture of health. I am looking for a Very Special Home. My new family will need to be very experienced big dog owners with good knowledge of Canine Behaviour. I need an excellent Pack Leader, to look after me and prevent me from getting into trouble. If I do not have this guidance I will become the leader of the pack and take charge of the household. I am not good with horses and livestock. I can be good with dogs and cats in the right environment i.e. if I am kept in my position in the pack, but would probably be better living as an only dog. I should not live with children as they would find it difficult to stick to the rules that are needed to enable me to live my life to the full. With the right guidelines in place, I am loving and obedient. Anybody who adopts me will be given the help and guidance of our Canine Behaviour Councillor. Jago Hello Jago here. I am 4 years old and find myself having to ask for your help through no fault of my own. My mum and dad have parted company and neither could look after me any longer. I am neutered vaccinated and micro- chipped and very fit and well. I am great with people and children, and fully house trained. I am ok with other dogs with the exception of yellow Labs and Retrievers! One day when I was younger I was out swimming – yes I said swimming – and one came swimming up behind me and dive bombed me and attacked me. I was terrified as you can imagine! Well that’s it now I am afraid I hate the little devils …. So if you can offer me a loving home where we can avoid Yellow Lab type things then please consider me. Benson Benson is my name and I am 3 yrs old. Castrated, vaccinated and micro chipped and fit as a fiddle. I like to play with dogs but am not fond of little ones. Older children are fine but I would be scared of little ones rushing about the place. Cats are for chasing aren’t they? I am very scared of some strange men. I need to meet them and get to know them and then all is well, but I don’t much like strange blokes walking up to me in the street. I am fine with all the men at the sanctuary now that I know them and we have super walks together and cuddles. Don’t have a problem with women as they are not so scary!

Dude Hi Folks Dude here I am 3 years old neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped and very fit. I love people of all ages, and I am a good house dog and very obedient. I am fine with medium and big dogs if introduced nicely, BUT am not to be trusted with little dogs. They just annoy me beyond belief and so I need to find a home where I will not have to come across any small dogs. I know this is tricky because I love exercise and need somewhere safe to run around. So if you have some land where I could get enough free running without having to meet any small yappies, then this would be ideal. Sorry to be a pain. I am lovely really, just can’t help myself !
