Special Dogs looking for a home

The dogs on this page are only a few of the approx. 30 dogs we have in care at any time. In addition to the "Special Needs Dogs" shown on this page, we have many other less demanding dogs waiting for homes. We do not maintain a public list of the dogs in care as it changes daily.

All of our dogs are properly assessed and all of our potential homes are checked for suitability. In addition the dogs are all vaccinated and wormed, and all the bitches are neutered prior to adoption. Our Dog Adoption Unit works very hard to ensure that the right dog is put into the right home by marrying the needs of the dog and the needs of the new home.

Vinnie

Click here to see a bigger picture of VinnieHiya all you big dog lovers, Vinnie is my name and I am 5 years old and have been neutered. Oh well you know how it is, there comes a time when you have to step aside and let the youngsters strut their stuff !

I am a fabulous big boy and am tolerant of other dogs but I don’t like male dogs on my patch. I am good natured with people and would be fine with teenagers.

I found myself in Battersea Dogs Home when my owners didn’t want me anymore, and thank goodness Nicola phoned Aunty Joy and I was swiftly delivered to the GDAS Sanctuary.

If you have big dog experience and a strong arm, as I weigh quite a lot on the other end of a lead, please apply online  asking for Big Vinnie  xxxxx

Sammy

Hi I am Sammy, a young Mastiff Cross who has suffered a very bad start in life.

As a puppy my owner was abusive and cruel to me, locking me up in a small bathroom for hours on end and finally taking a hammer to hit me over the head. A neighbour stepped in and took me to a rescue centre.

Click here to see a bigger picture of SammyI have been staying in foster care with Seth for several months now and am desperate for a forever home of my own. I suffer with fear aggression at the vets, and am dominant over all dogs I meet. And of course I will chase livestock and cats.

Therefore I need a home where I can avoid conflict with other dogs. However I crave human company, but should not be homed with any other pets of children.

I am quick to learn and need a strong active owner to give me lots of training and exercise.

Surely there must be someone who wants to give this handsome chap another chance. I could so easily be a dream dog, if I was just given strict guidelines from the start and a loving, non violent home.

If you think you can help please call Seth on 01273 271242 or 07916 146380

Tye

Click here to see a bigger picture of TyeWell, hello there to everyone. My name is Tye. I am just coming up 4 years old and I am fully vaccinated, neutered, and micro chipped.

I live with my good friends at the National Animal Welfare Trust, in Bushey, Hertfordshire. But I heard there is a bunch of cool guys that hang out on this site that are ideal for guys like me. I am a big lad with a big temperament. Unfortunately, I am not so good at advertising myself during the day, so I am hoping this will work out better.

I do need some human friends who are strong and experienced enough to handle a handsome guy like me. I need to know you first, but I love a good cuddle.I couldn’t live with youngsters, but I might like another doggy friend. Depends how we get on at the centre.

You can even talk to Dayle and Anna about me. These are my 2 new good friends, and they know lots about dogs like me, being behaviorists and all.

Can’t wait to meet you!

You can contact me via the following: 0208 950 0177 (1000-1600 daily) reception@nawt.org.uk

Kai

Click here to see a bigger picture of KaiHello my name is Kai, but I have had several names in my time!

I’m a two year old GD x Ridgeback and, as you can see from my pictures, I’m completely gorgeous! Although I look quite like a Dane, I’m more like the size of a Ridgeback so I don’t take up anywhere near as much room!

My current mum and dad rescued me from a nasty man who wanted me to be a tough dog and used push me around a lot, but I’m just not like that. I bark ferociously when people come to the house or walk past the car, but really I’m quite sensitive underneath it all and just want lots of cuddles.

I would love a new home where people are with me all day because I don’t like being without my humans. I would also love a big sister as we could then run around together and I would be able to burn off all my excess energy (but would probably get bullied if I had a big bro). I’ve lived with cats before so I wouldn’t mind if there were some of those around either.

I love playing with toys but someone has really told me off in the past when they tried to take a bone off me and now I can get a bit anxious and growly if you try. For this reason, I don’t want to be in a home with children, if that’s ok.

I am looking for a mum and dad who can understand me and be patient with me but still be very "black and white" and willing to teach me things so I don’t get bored. I like where I am now because they praise me a lot when I get things right but give me clear boundaries and rules so I don’t get confused. I am also looking for very energetic parents who can take me out for a couple of hours a day to run around.

If you would like to talk to my foster mum about possibly adopting me, please call her on 07930 418 153. Please give me the loving, "forever" home that I deserve and in return, I promise to love you forever and be wonderfully loyal and faithful.

Floyd

Hello Floyd here. I am a Dogue de Bordeaux or French Mastiff.

I was rescued from Death Row having done my 7 days as an unwanted stray. As you can see I am a handsome big fella, and I am 20 months old.

I have been neutered vaccinated and micro chipped. I am very friendly with people and getClick here to see a bigger picture of Floyd along with other dogs. I am good on and off lead and I am a good house dog.

My breed is not for the house proud however due to the slight issue of the slobber. The people who made the Turner and Hooch Movie were not exaggerating! I can’t help it but my chops are a bit drooly when I have a drink.

I am a very loveable boy and will make a great companion for a family with teenagers or adults only. I am a bit too big for small children who may get knocked over by my huge bulk. My hobbies include foot ball and sleeping ( I do snore quite loud). I would live as an only dog or with a friendly girl dog for company.

If you have plenty of space and time please apply online  and ask for Floyd.

Thanks for reading my story.

Lots of Love Floyd xxx

Striker

Hello my name is Striker, I am a Great Dane Cross and I am currently being looked after by the RSPCA at Southbridge Animal Centre Potter Bar.

Click here to see a bigger picture of StrikerI have been neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped and I am a very fit 2 year old young man.

I was rescued by one of the inspectors when my owner abandoned me. I need some training and socialising with other dogs. I will play with big girl dogs if I am introduced properly, but I am not very well mannered with other boy dogs. A home in the country would probably be best.

I should not be homed with cats and would be too boisterous for young children so I am looking for an experienced big dog family, with adults and teenagers only.

I am fantastic with people and my hobbies include long walks and playing ball.

I have been in kennels for ages and I am now getting very fed up.

If you think you can offer me the loving home that I deserve please call Claire on 01707 622801 and ask for Striker.

Thank you for reading my story

Love Striker xxxx

Mia

Hello nice people I am Mia, and my tail doesn’t stop wagging.

I found myself in the council pound when I was a stray and after 7 days I was about to be put to sleep because nobody claimed me.

I am about 4 years old Neapolitan Mastiff girl.Click here to see a bigger picture of Mia I am very friendly with people and very bouncy and playful. I love to run about and play and enjoy human company.

When I am out on my walk I am not too bothered about other K9 friends but I will not share my home with other dogs so I do need to be an only pet. I am fine with children but too bouncy for little ones so older children would be fine.

My breed is not for the house proud because we do tend to slobber quite a bit, but I do try to be ever so good, honest.

I love kisses and cuddles and give hugs generously. I find myself homeless through no fault of my own. I have had puppies in the past and did my best for my owner but sadly am no longer wanted.

If you are a big dog lover then I am your gal. Please think about offering me a forever home if you have room in your home and your heart for a gentle giant.

Lots of Love Mia xxxx

Please apply online  and ask for Happy Mia

Sasha

Click here to see a bigger picture of SashaHello everyone I am Sasha,

I am 2 years old and have been spayed. My Mum was a Mastiff and my Dad was a Dane. I have taken my beautiful colouring from my Mum but look much more like my Dad in every other way.

My owners couldn’t keep me because I was too boisterous for my human mummy who was in a wheel chair.

I am strong and fit and would live with a good natured male dog who is happy to let me be in charge, or as an only dog provided I am not left alone for long periods.

I like people and dogs and just need a fit family who can give me the attention, time and exercise that I deserve. I would be suitable for a family with teenagers as I am too strong willed for young children. I am not good with cats.

Please consider me as I have been trying to find the right home for absolutely ages.

I am staying with my foster family in Essex and they are very kind to me but I really do need my own "forever home". So please apply online  asking for Sasha.

Lots of Love Sasha

xxxxx
